Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is set to lead an Indian parliamentary delegation to the 149th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Geneva next week. This high-profile event will also be attended by Rajya Sabha Deputy Chair Harivansh and other parliamentarians from both houses.

Birla is scheduled to address the Assembly with a focus on 'harnessing science, technology, and innovation for a more peaceful and sustainable future.' As part of his itinerary, he will participate in the meetings of the IPU's Governing Council, which serves as the organization's top decision-making body.

Additionally, Birla will engage with the Indian diaspora in Geneva. The Indian delegation will actively participate in the Executive Committee meetings, four Standing Committees, and various working sessions. The IPU boasts a membership of 180 parliaments, including countries like China, India, and Indonesia, alongside smaller states such as Cabo Verde and Palau.
