The recent Jammu and Kashmir assembly election results convey a strong sentiment against the central government's 2019 decision to scrap Article 370, said Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday. Addressing attendees at Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz stated that the electorate delivered a 'unanimous and clear message' to resist any attempt to subjugate them.
Mirwaiz highlighted that through their collective voting, residents expressed their disapproval of the changes imposed unilaterally in 2019, and are calling for an end to systematic disempowerment. He expressed hope that the new administration would respect this electoral mandate by restoring legal protections and rights.
Furthermore, Mirwaiz appealed for the release of political prisoners and the youth detained under harsh laws like UAPA and PSA, underlining the need for the newly elected leaders to push for the repeal of such draconian measures.
