In a controversial move, the Congress government in Karnataka has withdrawn a criminal case against a mob accused of attacking police forces last April in Hubballi. The decision, approved by the Cabinet on Thursday, followed a petition by Anjuman-e-Islam to Home Minister G Parameshwara.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi criticized the decision, calling it the 'height of appeasement.' He argued that the case should remain as it involves the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and was pending before the NIA court.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah defended the action, stating it was within the government's powers and discretion. Nevertheless, the BJP plans to protest, accusing the Congress of often protesting 'false issues.'
