The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are embroiled in a heated debate over the financial health of the Delhi government. Delhi is projected to experience a revenue deficit in 2024-25, marking its first deficit budget, according to BJP allegations of a decade-long fiscal mismanagement by AAP.
BJP Delhi president Virendra Sachdeva asserted that this deficit results from AAP's excessive public welfare spending without adequate revenue generation. Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi countered by challenging BJP-governed states to present any surplus budgets, implying that deficits are a common issue across BJP-led administrations.
AAP accused the BJP of obstructing Delhi's progress through bureaucratic control and alleged that BJP's remarks were an attempt to undermine the efforts of an honest government. As the assembly elections approach, the political tension between the two parties continues to escalate.
