The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) has unanimously chosen Omar Abdullah as the leader of its Legislative Party. Abdullah, who also serves as JKNC's president, expressed gratitude towards party legislators for their confidence in him and plans to approach Raj Bhavan to stake his claim for government formation.

Abdullah revealed ongoing negotiations with the Congress to obtain their support, while four independent MLAs have already pledged their backing to the National Conference. With this additional support, the party now has 42 MLAs. Abdullah intends to finalize the coalition by securing Congress's backing to form a government.

Commenting on the state's political future, Abdullah stressed the importance of passing a resolution for statehood restoration and initiating dialogue with central government figures, including the Prime Minister and the Home Minister. He advocates for a peaceful coexistence with the Lieutenant Governor to benefit Jammu and Kashmir's populace.

Addressing a congratulatory call from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abdullah noted a shared desire for a cooperative atmosphere to facilitate governance. He refrained from discussing potential cabinet roles or a deputy chief ministership for Congress, underscoring the coalition's responsibility to deliver on public expectations.

Abdullah assured representation for all citizens, including those who abstained from voting and BJP supporters, in his future government. He emphasized inclusive governance, ensuring benefits reach everyone, regardless of their voting choices, to maintain harmony across the region.
