The Maharashtra Cabinet, helmed by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has urged the Indian government to bestow the Bharat Ratna, the country's preeminent civilian accolade, on the late Ratan Tata. The veteran industrialist's passing has prompted a flurry of tributes, including a resolution during the state cabinet meeting.

A condolence motion followed Tata's passing in Breach Candy Hospital at age 86, with state authorities mandating full state honors for his last rites. Chief Minister Shinde announced a state mourning period, emphasizing the indelible mark left by Tata following his leadership post the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Maharashtra's Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis lamented Tata's passing as a significant national loss, highlighting his global impact through Tata Group's transformation. His remains, draped in the national flag, are prepared for public homage at the National Centre for the Performing Arts before a ceremonial procession.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and numerous political leaders expressed condolences, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailing Tata's pivotal role in navigating the Tata Group through crucial reforms. Tata, who led Tata Sons from 1991 to 2012, was posthumously acknowledged for his contributions to philanthropy and industry.
