In a significant political development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has clinched its third consecutive term in Haryana, emerging as the dominant force by winning 48 out of 90 seats in the assembly elections, results of which were announced on Tuesday. Mohan Lal Badoli, the state president of BJP, attributed the Congress's defeat to party leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, suggesting his role was pivotal in the disappointing outcome for the opposition.
The BJP's continued grip on power has been further solidified by the support of two independent MLAs, Devender Kadyan and Rajesh Joon, as well as Savitri Jindal, bringing their legislative tally to 51. Discussions are underway regarding the potential reappointment of Nayab Singh Saini as Chief Minister, with the final decision pending from the party's national leadership.
Amidst the electoral aftermath, Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda and other party officials met with the Election Commission of India to address alleged discrepancies in the voting process. Hooda expressed concerns over delayed vote counts and reported issues with several electronic voting machines (EVMs), pushing for a thorough investigation and resolution from election authorities.
