The Congress-led UDF opposition in Kerala has raised concerns over increasing unemployment in the state, criticizing the ruling Left government for allegedly making backdoor appointments. They voiced their concerns during a notice seeking to adjourn state assembly proceedings for a discussion on unemployment.

Opposing the accusations, state Finance Minister K N Balagopal insisted that unemployment is not an issue in Kerala, citing that 60 percent of national recruitment occurs there. He highlighted the state's robust employment landscape, mentioning startups, MSMEs, and migrant workers contributing to the job market.

The UDF, however, challenged this view, pointing to large-scale migration of job-seekers and students from Kerala. They alleged unappointed PSC rank holders and criticized government departments for rejecting police recruitment proposals. Unable to secure an adjournment for debate, the UDF staged a walkout in protest.
