The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) suffered a significant defeat in the Pir Panchal region, winning only one seat out of eight assembly constituencies. The area, known as a bastion of the National Conference, witnessed the NC-Congress alliance triumphing by securing five seats.
The party attempted to leverage the Centre's recent decision on reservations for Gujjars and Paharis but failed to convert the strategy into electoral wins. In contrast, the NC-Congress alliance received strong voter support with 233,477 votes, overshadowing the BJP's 201,351 votes.
BJP leaders claim that the loss was due to religious polarization orchestrated by National Conference figures during their campaign. Despite this setback, the BJP vows to reassess and continue its focus on peace, development, and welfare initiatives in the region.
