Veteran Congress leader and former Jammu and Kashmir governor Karan Singh voiced his satisfaction with the recently conducted 'free and fair' assembly elections in the region. Expressing this as a triumph, Singh advocated for the restoration of full statehood as the logical next step for Jammu and Kashmir.
Singh emphasized the need for domiciliary provisions similar to those in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, highlighting property acquisition challenges. The 93-year-old leader noted the sharp political divide, with the National Conference excelling in Kashmir and the BJP in Jammu, presenting a challenge for the new government.
The newly formed National Conference-Congress coalition emerged victorious in the first elections post the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. Singh congratulated Omar Abdullah on establishing a government, reiterating the call for administrative integrity and harmonious development under the new regime.
