In a display of political prowess, the BJP has emerged victorious in Haryana, securing an unprecedented 48 assembly seats. This victory not only marks a hat-trick in the state but also surpasses the party's notable 2014 performance when it first rose to power independently.
The BJP's success comes despite anti-incumbency challenges, effectively halting the Congress' resurgence attempts in the assembly elections, the results of which were declared on Tuesday. The Congress managed to secure 37 seats, while the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and three Independent candidates also tasted success.
Historically, the BJP had been a secondary player in Haryana, often allying with parties like the INLD. However, since 2014, the party has taken a commanding role, contesting all assembly seats independently and rallying under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to capture voter confidence.
