In a landmark democratic triumph, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended congratulations to the National Conference alliance for their decisive victory in the recent Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Modi emphasized that the peaceful conduct and high voter turnout reflected a significant endorsement of India's constitutional values.
Addressing party members at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters, Modi highlighted the BJP's emergence as the leading party by vote percentage, underscoring the transformative climate in the region post the abrogation of Article 370. He acknowledged the mandate given to the National Conference (NC) alliance and promised continued efforts towards peace and stability.
The elections, the first since Jammu and Kashmir's reorganization into Union Territories and the removal of its special status, were held on three dates: September 18, September 25, and October 1. With the NC-Congress alliance capturing a majority of 48 seats, Omar Abdullah is expected to take office as Chief Minister.
