The Congress party has faced its worst performance in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, securing only one seat out of the 29 it contested in the Jammu region. This marks the lowest point for the party in the region's electoral history.
Despite entering the elections in a pre-poll alliance with the National Conference (NC) and fielding 32 candidates, the Congress could only manage a victory in the Rajouri seat. This is a stark contrast to their success in the previous elections where they won five seats.
Key Congress figures, including two working presidents and several former ministers, were defeated by BJP rivals. The party plans to gather detailed feedback from its members to understand the reasons behind this electoral debacle.
