Thirteen women candidates have made history by securing seats in the 90-member Haryana assembly, marking a significant rise from the eight elected in the 2019 elections. These results, declared on Tuesday, highlight a growing representation of women in regional politics.
The election on October 5 witnessed 1,031 candidates vying for positions, including 101 women. The BJP successfully had five female candidates elected, while the Congress saw seven women secure assembly positions. Among the victorious Independent candidates was Savitri Jindal, who claimed the Hisar seat.
Independent candidate Savitri Jindal emerged victorious in the Hisar assembly seat, defeating Congress' Ram Niwas Rara by a significant margin of 18,941 votes. The BJP nominees who won included Shakti Rani Sharma from Kalka and Krishna Gahlawat from Rai. Meanwhile, Congress candidates like wrestler Vinesh Phogat and former minister Geeta Bhukkal were among the others to secure their positions in the assembly.
