Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has lambasted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its purported claims of a warm reception in Jammu and Kashmir following recent events. Tharoor highlighted that the National Conference (NC)-Congress alliance received substantial backing, aiming to deliver a reliable and accountable government in the Union Territory.
"In a democracy, what truly matters is the public's choice. In J&K, contrary to BJP's assertions of broad support, the reality differs. The overwhelming endorsement for the NC-Congress coalition signifies a call for accountable governance. The demand for statehood is only set to grow," Tharoor stated.
In Haryana, Tharoor expressed astonishment at the Congress's performance, urging the party to review its electoral strategy. Despite expectations of winning additional seats, the Congress finished significantly behind the BJP in the Haryana assembly polls. Jammu and Kashmir saw the NC leading the alliance to victory, while Congress managed only six seats.
