The INDIA bloc clinched a historic victory in Jammu and Kashmir's assembly elections, marking the first polls since the 2019 revocation of Article 370. Securing 49 of the 90 seats, they stood poised to form the region's inaugural elected government.
The National Conference (NC) dominated the scene with 42 seats, while the BJP secured 29 seats, marking its best performance to date in the region. In contrast, the People's Democratic Party (PDP)'s influence waned significantly, managing only three seats, a steep decline from 2014's 28.
Political analysts attribute BJP's gains to the recent delimitation, despite an increased vote share from 23% to 25.64%. The NC also saw a vote share rise. Among key figures, Omar Abdullah emerged victorious, possibly setting the stage for his role as chief minister.
