The INDIA bloc has successfully formed the first elected government in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370, winning 49 out of the 90 contested seats. The elections marked an important milestone as they were held for the first time in five years.
The National Conference (NC) emerged as the leading party, securing 42 seats, just shy of a majority. The BJP made notable improvements with 29 seats, while the People's Democratic Party (PDP) saw a significant decline. Meanwhile, the Congress won only six seats, mostly in the Jammu region.
Omar Abdullah, positioned as a potential chief minister after his dual victory, has promised to address public concerns. Despite challenges over the past five years, the NC's resilience paid off. From the PDP, Mehbooba Mufti acknowledged the NC-Congress win and pledged a constructive opposition role.
