Diplomatic Tensions Rise Over Drug Kingpin Arrests
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that her foreign minister will meet with the U.S. ambassador to discuss the arrest of drug trafficker Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada and a relative of Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman in the USA. The arrests have stirred diplomatic tensions.
In a diplomatic turn of events, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum disclosed on Tuesday that her foreign minister is set to confer with the United States ambassador. This meeting aims to address the contentious arrest of a prominent Mexican drug trafficker on U.S. soil.
The drug kingpin, Ismael 'El Mayo' Zambada, alongside a son of former cartel leader Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman, were apprehended in July in El Paso, Texas. This major bust by U.S. authorities has sparked frustration among Mexican officials who were reportedly not pre-informed.
In response to rising tensions, U.S. officials clarified that while they were not directly involved in the initial capture, they detained the pair upon their arrival in the U.S. The incident underscores ongoing complexities in international drug enforcement cooperation.
