The National Conference-Congress alliance has emerged victorious in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, securing an absolute majority with 48 seats. The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) led the way, clinching 42 seats as announced in the election results on Tuesday. In comparison, the Congress party managed to secure just six seats. The elections were conducted for a total of 90 assembly seats in the region.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also demonstrated a robust performance by winning 29 seats. Additionally, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's People's Democratic Party (PDP) managed to capture three seats, while Sajad Gani Lone's People's Conference and the Aam Aadmi Party each won one seat. The CPI(M) secured one seat as well, and independent candidates captured seven seats. The BJP garnered a 25.64 percent vote share, closely followed by the National Conference with 23.43 percent and the Congress with 11.97 percent.

Omar Abdullah, a prominent leader of the National Conference, is likely to become the next Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. This election marks a landmark event as it is the first since the revocation of Article 370 in August 2019, which led to the bifurcation of the state into two Union Territories. Former Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah stated that the new government would aim to solve pressing issues such as unemployment and inflation. He emphasized the mandate's clear message and assured that Omar Abdullah would take charge as Chief Minister.
