Seven independent candidates have won seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, reflecting a notable rise from the 2014 elections when only three emerged victorious. These results indicate a shift in political dynamics in the region.
Satesh Sharma, a former Congress member, emerged as a winner by securing the Chhamb seat, defeating the BJP candidate Rajeev Sharma with a margin of 6,929 votes. Notably, former Deputy Chief Minister and Congress candidate Tara Chand finished third, highlighting Satesh Sharma's strong performance.
Other significant independent wins include Payare Lal Sharma in Inderwal and Dr Rameshwar Singh in Bani. The victories of independent candidates showcase a growing trend of political independence and voter shift in the Jammu and Kashmir region.
