A significant meeting occurred between Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lieutenant Governor Admiral D K Joshi (Retd) and BJP MP Bishnu Pada Ray at the Raj Niwas. The two discussed tackling several pending development issues, aiming to benefit local residents and traders, according to officials.
Ray had been demanding the removal of Joshi, claiming a lack of development during his tenure. With prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS enacted ahead of a protest march by Ray, tensions were high. He accused Joshi of ignoring critical files related to education, roads, healthcare, and tourism for the past seven years.
Despite the contentious backdrop, the meeting concluded on a positive note, with Joshi instructing officials to address land registration and water supply issues. Ray also urged for a domicile law to prioritize local employment, reflecting broader economic grievances outlined by the Andaman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI). The ACCI had requested Joshi's intervention to boost sectors like trade and tourism.
