Increased Use of NOTA Reflects Voter Sentiment in Jammu and Kashmir
Jammu and Kashmir saw a higher percentage of voters using the NOTA option compared to Haryana, according to latest Election Commission data. NOTA, introduced in 2013 for voters discontented with candidates, remains largely symbolic and does not affect election outcomes unless more than 50% of voters opt for it.

According to the latest data from the Election Commission, voters in Jammu and Kashmir are more inclined to use the NOTA button compared to their counterparts in Haryana.
During the elections for the 90-member Haryana assembly, 67.90% of the more than two crore electors exercised their right to vote, and 0.38% of them chose the NOTA option. In contrast, Jammu and Kashmir's three-phased assembly polls saw 63.88% voter turnout, with 1.48% opting for NOTA.
The NOTA option, launched in 2013, allows voters to express dissatisfaction with the candidates presented. Despite a steady usage below 2%, former Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat notes its symbolic value rather than electoral impact unless over 50% of voters opt for it in a seat.
