A recent Reuters/Ipsos poll indicates a razor-thin lead for Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris over Republican Donald Trump in the run-up to the November 5 U.S. presidential election. The poll shows Harris leading Trump by a mere three percentage points, at 46% to 43% respectively.
Economic issues were rated as the most pressing concern by respondents, with Trump preferred by 44% on dealing with the "cost of living", versus 38% for Harris. However, Harris was viewed as more competent on addressing economic inequality, with 42% support compared to Trump's 35%.
The survey also underscored the persistent divide over immigration, a theme Trump has consistently highlighted. Some 53% of respondents concurred with the view that "immigrants who are in the country illegally are a danger to public safety," despite academic studies refuting such claims.
