Shiv Sena UBT leader Sanjay Raut expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the Union Cabinet approved the conferral of classical language status to Marathi and other languages. The decision, announced on Thursday, includes Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, Assamese, and Bengali in the prestigious category.
Raut described the recognition of Marathi as a "great honour," citing the longstanding demand for its classical status. He acknowledged collective efforts from leaders across party lines over the past decades, asserting that the achievement was not attributable to a single party, despite the BJP's tendency to claim credit for such successes.
Furthermore, Raut praised various government officials, including the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Minister of Culture, for their roles in this development. Highlighting the establishment of a Linguistic Experts Committee under the Ministry of Culture in 2004, Raut contextualized Marathi's achievement alongside other languages like Tamil, Sanskrit, Telugu, and Kannada.
