The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains confident of securing victory in the upcoming Haryana assembly elections, despite the defection of Dalit leader Ashok Tanwar to the Congress. Party spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain dismissed the impact of Tanwar's move, criticizing Congress for its alleged insults to Hindutava ideologue VD Savarkar.
Speaking to reporters, Hussain emphasized his party's prospects, noting the unwavering support from all communities for BJP in the polls. He criticized Tanwar as fickle-minded for abruptly switching allegiance despite previously campaigning for the BJP. Hussain noted that Tanwar's earlier defeat in the Lok Sabha elections suggested a lack of political influence.
Hussain also strongly condemned controversial remarks made by Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao about Savarkar. He stressed that Congress leaders should not demean Savarkar, whom he said is respected nationwide. Additionally, Hussain expressed gratitude towards the Maharashtra government for dedicating the indigenous cow as 'Rajyamata-Gomata' and reiterated a call for a nationwide cow slaughter ban.
