In a rally at his native village Satauj, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann urged citizens to reject candidates relying on money and muscle power ahead of the Panchayat elections scheduled for October 15. He called for unanimous selection of Sarpanches to strengthen democracy at its core.
Mann announced incentives for villages that elect leaders unanimously, including grants of Rs 5 lakh, infrastructure developments such as stadiums, schools, or hospitals. According to him, this approach will foster communal harmony and holistic development across Punjab's rural areas.
The chief minister emphasized that Panchayat elections will be conducted without party symbols, a move designed to eliminate village groupism and promote unbiased governance. Mann stated his commitment to reinforcing the Panchayati Raj system by ensuring capable and honest leadership.
