In a surprising political turn, senior BJP leader and former Member of Parliament, Ashok Tanwar, announced his return to the Congress party during a rally led by Rahul Gandhi in Haryana on Thursday. This move comes as a significant setback for the ruling BJP, just two days before the state's elections.
Previously supporting a BJP candidate, Tanwar made a 180-degree shift, walking onto the stage where he was welcomed back into the Congress fold, marking the end of his brief association with BJP. This reunion is seen as a 'ghar wapasi' or homecoming after nearly five years.
Despite contributing to BJP's campaign activities, Tanwar, a prominent Dalit leader, stated that his return was the proverbial will of God, highlighting the unpredictable nature of political allegiances. Congress leaders, including K C Venugopal and political scientist Yogendra Yadav, were present to witness Tanwar's significant move.
