In an escalating protest at Delhi's Chandagiram Aakhara, Aam Aadmi Party leaders, including Ministers Saurabh Bhardwaj, Imran Hussain, and Mukesh Ahlawat, joined ranks with bus marshals to demand their reinstatement. The bus marshals have been lobbying for their jobs since their services were terminated by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena in October last year.
Key AAP MLAs like Dilip Pandey and Sanjeev Jha were present at the protest, highlighting a resolution from the recent Delhi Assembly Session that called for a meeting between AAP and BJP leaders with the LG to resolve the marshals' issue.
Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj highlighted the need for a bipartisan discussion with the BJP to address the bus marshals' plight, stating that an agreement was reached on September 26th for joint discussions with the LG. The protest gained online traction with AAP's official X handle posting demands for LG Saxena to reinstate bus marshals, emphasizing their right to celebrate the festival season with dignity.
Last month, Delhi's Chief Minister Atishi also urged LG Saxena in writing, requesting the restoration of bus marshal jobs. She criticized the abrupt termination of their salaries, which jeopardized the successful Bus Marshal Scheme. Atishi appealed for humane intervention, urging immediate rectification to restore jobs for the affected employees.
