The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday criticized the Congress over controversial remarks made by Karnataka Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao regarding freedom fighter Veer Savarkar.

During an event in Bengaluru, Rao claimed that Savarkar was not opposed to cow slaughter and was a meat eater. He contrasted this with Mohammad Ali Jinnah, whom he described as less fundamentalist than Savarkar.

Reacting to these comments, BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh condemned the statements as unfortunate and disrespectful, accusing Congress of routinely insulting India's freedom fighters.
