In a surprising political turn, Ashok Tanwar, the former Lok Sabha MP, has rejoined the Congress just days ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections. His return was announced on Thursday, where he appeared alongside Rahul Gandhi, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, in Mahendargarh.

Tanwar's political journey has been eventful. Elected as the Congress MP from Sirsa in 2009, he led the Haryana Congress from 2014 to 2019. After leaving Congress, he joined the Trinamool Congress in 2021 and later the Aam Aadmi Party in 2022. Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he switched to BJP and contested from Sirsa, only to be defeated by Congress's Kumari Selja.

The move comes as a setback for the BJP as Tanwar's re-entry into Congress coincides with the final day of campaigning for the Haryana elections. In Nuh, Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP government for allegedly undermining the Indian Constitution, emphasizing Congress's commitment to unity through initiatives like the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra.' Haryana will hold elections on October 5, with results to be declared on October 8.
