Amid escalating flood conditions in Bihar, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has made an urgent appeal to both central and state authorities to hasten relief efforts and ensure adequate compensation for those affected. In a direct message on social media platform X, Kharge underlined the critical situation, describing it as 'extremely painful.'

The deluge has impacted nearly 1.5 million people across 17 districts, with numerous fatalities reported in recent days. Infrastructure has crumbled, and homes in northern Bihar have borne the brunt of the disaster. Kharge's statement included a plea for expedited aid to provide immediate assistance to victims, while he lauded the efforts of the Indian Air Force and the National and State Disaster Response Forces.

Flooding in Bihar has been exacerbated by heavy water discharge from the Kosi Barrage in Birpur, following incessant rainfall in Nepal's catchment areas. The crisis has forced many residents to seek temporary shelter along roadsides. Local authorities, confronted with accessibility issues, have sanctioned boat movements in submerged regions to ameliorate residents' plight, according to the District Magistrate.
