With Maharashtra assembly elections on the horizon, Congress and NCP (SP) launched a series of 'long marches' in Mumbai on Wednesday, coinciding with Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary. The marches aimed to highlight the policy failures of the Central and Mahayuti governments.

Senior BJP leader and Maharashtra's Deputy CM, Devendra Fadnavis, responded by asking the Opposition to honor Mahatma Gandhi's wish to dissolve Congress, suggesting its time had passed.

NCP (SP) leaders, including Supriya Sule and Jayant Patil, led a protest march from the Gandhi statue near Mantralaya to Hutatma Chowk, criticizing the Mahayuti government's record on law and order and economic management. Meanwhile, Congress leaders, spearheaded by Varsha Gaikwad and Ramesh Chennithala, reiterated the importance of Gandhian principles of non-violence and social harmony, accusing Prime Minister Modi of diverging from these ideals. The Opposition also launched a 'Hakk Magtoy Maharashtra' campaign, emphasizing ten key areas including economic decline and women's safety.
