AAP Protests Detention of Climate Activist Sonam Wangchuk

AAP workers staged a protest against Lt Governor VK Saxena after Delhi Chief Minister Atishi was prevented from meeting climate activist Sonam Wangchuk at Bawana Police Station. Wangchuk and over 120 others were detained during a march to Delhi advocating for Sixth Schedule status for Ladakh.

The Delhi Police increased security at Bawana Police Station, where Wangchuk is currently held. Atishi criticized the BJP and Lt Governor, accusing them of dictatorial practices. She expressed solidarity with Wangchuk and Ladakh, demanding an end to the LG's rule in both regions.

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal questioned the legitimacy of Wangchuk's detention, drawing parallels to other instances when peaceful protesters were barred from entering Delhi. The climate activist, along with his associates, has commenced an indefinite fast. Political figures like Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge also denounced the detentions as overreach by the central government, while the BJP labeled these criticisms as extreme hypocrisy.
