The Israeli military on Tuesday announced new restrictions on public gatherings and closed beaches over Hezbollah rocket fire. After Israel claimed to have launched a limited ground incursion into Lebanon, the militant group denied Israeli troops had entered.
Hezbollah fired medium-range rockets into central Israel earlier in the day, injuring one person. The Israeli military then warned residents to evacuate nearly two dozen Lebanese border communities. It remains unclear whether Israeli troops have crossed the border, with no supporting visual evidence emerging.
As tensions rise, Israel has advised people to move north of the Awali River, significantly farther than the previously established UN buffer zone. UN peacekeepers and the Lebanese army have not confirmed the Israeli incursion, calling it a violation of sovereignty. Hezbollah has pledged to confront any invading forces. Meanwhile, European countries are beginning to evacuate their citizens from Lebanon amid escalating violence.
