As Jammu and Kashmir entered the final phase of its Assembly Elections 2024, Union Minister Jitendra Singh emphasized the enthusiastic voter participation as a significant milestone in the region's democratic journey. According to Singh, the high turnout is indicative of the 'true mainstreaming' of democracy in the Union territory.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh, alongside his family, cast their votes at a polling booth in the Bahu Assembly Constituency. Singh noted that this election cycle has seen unprecedented voter engagement compared to previous years, adding that this signals a celebration of democracy.

'For the first time in many years, we're witnessing a large number of voters coming out to participate in the elections. This is a celebration of democracy,' Singh said. He remarked on past practices under Article 370 that extended the Vidhan Sabha's term to six years. Since the repeal of Article 370, grassroots democracy has flourished, significantly altering the political landscape in Jammu and Kashmir.

Highlighting the absence of usual disturbances, Singh pointed out the lack of strike calls from Pakistan and boycotts, which plagued previous elections. 'This marks the true integration of J&K's democracy with India's mainstream,' Singh asserted.

He also addressed the historical injustices faced by refugees from Pakistan, who were denied voting and citizenship rights under Articles 370 and 35A. Singh contended that these articles never benefited the common man and argued for their abrogation, predicting the BJP's widespread success in the region.

Polling commenced at 7 AM with 40 constituencies, including 24 in Jammu division and 16 in Kashmir Valley, going to the polls. (ANI)
