In a suspected move by Yemen's Houthi rebels, a commercial ship in the Red Sea was targeted on Tuesday, marking a possible resumption of attacks on commercial vessels. This comes amidst escalating regional tensions fueled by the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
The attack took place approximately 110 kilometers off the port city of Hodeida, an area that has increasingly become a hotspot in the Houthis' broader campaign against shipping routes. British military authorities reported that a captain witnessed four 'splashes' near his vessel, likely caused by missiles or drones.
While the Houthis have not officially claimed responsibility yet, they have previously threatened to ramp up military actions targeting Israel and its allies. This year alone, over 80 merchant vessels have reportedly come under attack, with Houthis aiming to force an end to Israel's operations in Gaza.
