Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) President Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, unequivocally dismissed speculation of aligning with the BJP, emphasizing that the central goal of his party is to restore peace in Kashmir.
Engineer Rashid, a former MLA, highlighted his political independence and criticized traditional parties, maintaining that power has never been his priority. 'Why will I join hands with the BJP? Power is a very small thing for me. I am primarily concerned with stopping the rampant killings in Kashmir and fostering a peaceful environment.'
Rashid pointed to the recent surge in voter turnout as a reflection of the people's desire for change, asserting that Kashmiris see democratic means as the path to their aspirations. 'The increased voting percentage is because people are tired of state repression. They want to express their feelings democratically. There's no place for violence in society.' Rashid urged an era of reconciliation post-elections, while preparing to surrender on October 3 after being granted interim bail. The polling for the third and final phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections began today, involving 415 candidates across 40 constituencies.
