Sri Lanka is set to deepen its discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) concerning a $2.9 billion bailout program at the lender's annual meetings in Washington later this month, according to a government spokesperson.

The Sri Lankan delegation, led by the central bank governor, treasury secretary, and financial advisers to newly-appointed President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, will head to Washington for the crucial talks, said Minister Vijitha Herath during a news briefing on Tuesday.

As the island nation grapples with economic challenges, the upcoming IMF discussions are being viewed as a critical juncture in securing financial aid and creating a robust framework for economic recovery.
