Jammu East's Congress candidate, Yogesh Sawhney, declared on Tuesday that if elected, Congress would oust the BJP and eradicate their perceived atrocities from the past decade. Sawhney emphasized the importance of secularism, stating, 'Secularism will win, and people will express their anger through votes for the BJP's past actions.'

Sawhney further addressed critical local issues, denying any promises to bring back Article 370 but insisting on his demands for youth employment and land safety in Jammu. 'Statehood should be restored,' he urged, adding a plea for voter turnout. 'We are fighting for the truth, and I request people to vote and not remain at home.'

With the BJP fielding Yudhvir Sethi and Congress fielding Sawhney, Jammu East's assembly seat sees intense competition. The third phase of elections, including this constituency, commenced polling on Tuesday morning as part of an ongoing democratic process. Election Commission figures from the first and second phases reported turnout rates of 61% and 57.31% respectively, as prominent figures, including Prime Minister Modi and key opposition leaders, remained actively engaged on the ground. Votes will be counted on October 8.
