Biden to Visit Storm-Ravaged North Carolina After Hurricane Helene
U.S. President Joe Biden announced plans to visit North Carolina to survey the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. The hurricane left a 'post-apocalyptic' landscape, with numerous missing residents and massive infrastructural damage. Biden also addressed misinformation spread by Donald Trump regarding emergency response efforts and plans to visit Georgia and Florida soon.
President Joe Biden is set to visit North Carolina on Wednesday to assess the severe damage inflicted by Hurricane Helene. Western North Carolina now resembles a 'post-apocalyptic' landscape, with hundreds of residents still missing and widespread damage across the region.
Following a briefing with Governor Roy Cooper and FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell, Biden will attend a local briefing and undertake an aerial tour of Asheville. He also indicated plans to visit the storm-hit areas of Georgia and Florida as soon as possible.
Biden accused Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump of making false claims about Georgia Governor Brian Kemp's difficulties in reaching the White House post-storm. Both Kemp and Biden confirmed that they had communicated on Sunday. The hurricane has resulted in over 100 deaths across multiple states, with officials warning that the toll could climb further as emergency services reach more affected areas.
