Hurricane Helene Halts Presidential Campaigns

The aftermath of Hurricane Helene interrupted the presidential campaigns of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump on Monday. Harris shortened her trip to return to Washington, while Trump visited the storm-ravaged city of Valdosta, Georgia, pledging 'complete solidarity' with victims.

Hurricane Helene resulted in over 100 fatalities across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia, leaving millions without power and infrastructure severely damaged. Democratic President Joe Biden announced his plans to visit North Carolina later in the week.

Harris' campaign has slated visits to Pennsylvania and Michigan, and she has spoken with governors to discuss relief efforts. More than 3,300 federal personnel have been deployed to aid in rescue operations and power restoration.
