AIADMK leader Edappadi K Palaniswami criticized the recent elevation of Udhayanidhi Stalin to Deputy Chief Minister, labeling it as 'family politics.' Speaking to reporters on Monday, he predicted that people will reject this practice in the 2026 Assembly polls.
Palaniswami noted that many dedicated DMK members, including those who had been jailed, have been overlooked for the position. He referenced past instances where Chief Minister MK Stalin recognized the incarceration of party workers during the Emergency.
The AIADMK chief pointed out that senior Ministers and experienced office-bearers within the DMK have not been considered for top roles, which have instead been reserved for members of the late DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi's family. He sarcastically remarked that this trend indicates a royal lineage and expressed confidence that voters will 'put a full stop to it.'
