U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Monday that he has communicated with the governors of Georgia and North Carolina in the aftermath of the catastrophic Hurricane Helene, which has claimed more than 100 lives and left millions without power. The president stated he would visit North Carolina later this week, expecting to arrive by Wednesday or Thursday. Furthermore, Biden indicated that he might request a special session of Congress to approve a supplemental funding package for the disaster's victims.
Reports indicate at least 100 fatalities and 600 people still unaccounted for following the hurricane's destructive passage. 'We will be there with you as long as it takes,' Biden assured. 'The Biden-Harris administration will be there until the job is done.'
Emergency responders in North Carolina scrambled on Monday to locate and assist those still unaccounted for three days after Hurricane Helene devastated the southeastern United States.
