Delhi Chief Minister Atishi met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. Atishi expressed her anticipation of the President's support for the welfare of Delhi's citizens, as shared via social media platform X.
President Murmu confirmed the meeting on X, stating, 'Ms Atishi, Chief Minister of Delhi, called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.' Earlier that day, Atishi had challenged a summoning order related to a defamation case.
The defamation case, filed by BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor, led Special Court Judge Vishal Gogne to issue a notice to Kapoor. The matter is set for an October 7 hearing. Atishi's legal team includes Senior Advocate Ramesh Gupta and advocates Shailendra Singh and Mudit Jain.
The complaint began when Kapoor alleged that Atishi claimed the BJP approached her to join their party. According to Kapoor, these claims were false and defamatory. The Rouse Avenue Court issued a summons to Atishi on May 28, following a legal notice from Kapoor accusing her statements of being 'false, scandalous, and defamatory.'
Atishi's statements included an accusation that the BJP threatened her with arrest by the Enforcement Directorate if she did not join their party. The hearing on the matter is prioritized for October 7 in two different courts.
