Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has voiced concerns that Maharashtra's Ladki Bahin scheme, designed to provide financial assistance to women, could impede timely subsidy payments in other sectors.
The opposition NCP (SP) and Shiv Sena (UBT) seized upon Gadkari's comments, highlighting worries about the state's economic well-being. The Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana offers Rs 1,500 per month to eligible women, costing the state an estimated Rs 46,000 crore annually.
Speaking in Nagpur, Gadkari suggested that investors might face delays in receiving subsidies, urging entrepreneurs in Vidarbha to invest independently of government aid. This has emboldened opposition parties to criticize the scheme further, citing fiscal mismanagement.
