In a significant move ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, the Congress party has expelled two of its leaders for six years. Virender Gogria and Somvir Ghasola were suspended with immediate effect for engaging in anti-party activities.

An official letter from the party stated that the expulsions were due to leaders participating in activities that went against party interests during the ongoing assembly election. The party previously suspended 13 other members on September 27 for similar reasons.

Among the expelled members is Sajjan Singh Dhull, a former candidate from the Pundri and Pai Legislative Assembly, who joined Congress in December last year. Reports indicated that these leaders were fighting against the party's official candidates or supporting opponents.

On September 28, state Congress Chief Udai Bhan called for strict action against nine party rebels who backed opponents. In a letter to AICC secretary and co-incharge of Haryana, Manoj Chauhan, Bhan recommended the expulsion of Sharda Rathore, Rohita Revri, Satbir Bhana, and others to maintain party discipline.

The Haryana Assembly elections are scheduled for October 5, with the counting of votes set for October 8. In the 2019 elections, the BJP emerged as the largest party with 40 seats, while Congress secured 30 seats. (ANI)
