Enthusiasm among voters in Jammu and Kashmir is palpable as elections are being held for the first time in a decade, according to Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad. Azad pinpointed unemployment and Article 35A as the region's most pressing issues.
He highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had pledged in Parliament to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Azad also wished Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge a swift recovery after he fell ill during a rally in Kathua.
Discussing voter turnout, Azad said, "The voting has been successful, with the election being held after ten years. Previous delays were primarily due to terrorism during the 90s." He also touched on the unchanged issues in this year's assembly elections, criticizing regional parties for causing religious divisions. The three-phase elections began on September 18 and conclude on October 1, with results set to be announced on October 8.
