RSS leader A. Jayakumar defended private gatherings involving ADGP M. R. Ajithkumar and prominent Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh figures, asserting that such interactions are not out of the ordinary.

Jayakumar, who accompanied Ajithkumar to several meetings with RSS leaders including Dattatreya Hosable and Ram Madhav, mentioned that numerous IAS and IPS officers, including chief secretaries, have held similar private meetings with the RSS leadership.

The meetings, which involved Ajithkumar, a close aide of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, sparked controversy in Kerala. The ruling party ally CPI and the opposition Congress sharply criticized the interactions. Responding to the controversy, Ajithkumar clarified that his meeting with Hosabale in Thrissur last May was a 'personal visit', explaining this in communications with the Chief Minister's Office. Nevertheless, the DGP initiated an investigation and recorded Ajithkumar's statement regarding these private meetings. In a Facebook post, Jayakumar revealed he became aware through TV channels of a notice from the DGP's office related to the ongoing probe into the meetings. He defended his interactions as part of his responsibilities within the RSS and stated that comprehensive details would come to light soon. He underscored the routine nature of such meetings by sharing a photo of former President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam at an RSS event.
