The BJP launched a scathing attack on PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday, accusing her of indulging in 'vote bank politics' following her decision to cancel her poll campaign over the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
National spokesperson R P Singh labeled Mufti as 'pro-militant,' asserting that her actions demonstrate sympathy for terrorists. 'She has shown she is shedding tears over the death of terrorists. It is her habit to call terrorists martyrs,' Singh said, recalling similar instances involving other terrorist figures. Singh also criticized Sonia Gandhi and the INDIA alliance for what he described as pandering to votebank politics.
Mufti had announced her campaign cancellation on X, expressing solidarity with the 'martyrs of Lebanon & Gaza'. Senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta condemned her stance, questioning her motives and highlighting the lack of similar empathy for victims in Bangladesh and Pakistan. He argued that her actions revealed her true intentions and would not garner voter sympathy. Hezbollah confirmed Nasrallah's death as a significant setback for the militant group.
