Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Friday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, seeking early release of pending funds to the state for implementing key welfare schemes.

Key demands included funds for the Chennai Metro Rail phase-2 and the Samagra Shiksha Scheme. Concerns over the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, especially the three-language formula linked to the PM Shri schools scheme, were raised by the state. Stalin also emphasized the urgent need to address issues related to the arrest of Indian fishermen by Sri Lanka.

Stalin requested Modi's intervention for the approval of Chennai Metro Rail Project phase-2, which is delayed due to fiscal constraints. He also highlighted the non-release of the central share under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme for FY 2024-25 due to disagreements over MoU clauses. On the fishermen's issue, Stalin urged immediate diplomatic measures to secure the release of 145 fishers and 191 boats detained by Sri Lanka.
